I started writing this post in February but never had the opportunity to complete and publish it. That said, this is a post I have been meaning to share for a while.
Like I mentioned in my last post, I have been struggling to find a balance between school, work & everything else. These days, I literally have to schedule & set reminders about hangouts, calls & messages that I need to respond to. Now, before you think my life is chaotic and I’m constantly on some grind, allow me to debunk those thoughts. I actually make out time for ME, more than I would like to, considering my endless, ongoing to-do-list.
Recently, I fell very sick and could not hold up at work or school. Subsequently, I got the flu and then got diagnosed with low iron which is pretty common for women. In the end, I had to take a couple of days off to rest and take care of myself.
In the midst of all of that chaos, I thought about this post and was determined to complete and share it.
Keeping this as honest and concise as possible, here are a few things you should not forget to do:
Daily
Eat & eat well– From me to you, it is not cool to “forget to eat” or “skip breakfast”. Your body needs all the energy you can get. On the other hand, if you decide to change your diet (maybe thinking of going Vegetarian or Vegan), you probably want to see a dietician to make sure you are supplementing the vitamins and minerals you get from eating meat.
Drink water– Click here for 12 reasons why you should drink water. Having difficulties drinking water?
Start the day right– 3P’s: Prayer, Planning and Positivity.
Use the washroom– Yes, for both numbers 1 & 2 and especially number 2.
Get enough sleep– Based on this article, if you are around 18- 25, you should try to get about 7- 9 hours of sleep every night.
Maintain your personal hygiene– Clean up yourself and your space. Try to make your bed every morning. I watched this video and cultivated the habit of laying my bed every morning. Oh the joys of rolling into a well made bed at the end of an exhausting day!
Catch up on the news.
Occasionally
Have Periodic health checkups– How often do you visit the doctors? Do you go for annual check ups? Ladies, how often do you check your breasts? Based on this article, “Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start. They also can help find problems early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better.”
Something fun– There is so much to do here- hiking, catching up on your favourite tv shows, going to the movies, planning a trip, visiting a museum, exploring your vicinity, reading a book, watching youtube videos, going for dinner and drinks- the list is endless.
Invest in yourself– Learn a new language, brush up that skill, take on a new course, read an inspirational book, etc. Do something today that the future you would thank you for.
Try something new– Could be a dish, language, course, an event, a game, a place you haven’t been to.
Check up on your loved ones and friends- No matter how busy life gets, you must make time to do this because a life without meaningful relationships is no life at all!
Give to your community & to those in need- Volunteer your time, donate to charities, spread awareness, etc. No act of giving & love is too little.
Treat YourSELF!
That’s it for now. I hope you have enjoyed reading this post. Am I missing something on this list? Can you relate with some of the things I have mentioned here? Please don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I look forward to reading from you.
